FAQS ABOUT LIBRARY CARDS

How do I get a Worcester Public Library card?

All you need is proof of your current address and you will receive your Library card immediately. You may also apply online. Just go to www.worcpublib.org. We’ll still need to see your proof of current address when you come to pick up your card.

Can I use my Library card on the day I apply?

Yes! Adults can borrow 2 items on the first day, children and young adults may borrow 6. After that you may have up to 50 items checked out on your card at one time! What a deal!

Can I give my Library card to a friend or family member to use for themselves?

This probably isn’t a good idea. You are responsible for everything checked out on your card and if your friend doesn’t return the items you will be held responsible for them.

Can I renew items over the phone?

Yes you can! Just call any Branch of the Library to renew. Be sure to have your Library Card with you when you call. You may also renew your items by accessing your Library account online. Everything can be renewed 2 times.

Can I have someone else pick up my holds for me?

Your friend must have your Library card in order to pick up items being held in your name. Without your card, staff members are unable to give your hold to another individual.

If I forget my PIN number what should I do?

A PIN number gives you access to your own Library card account and is necessary to use the computers in the Library. Your PIN number can be reset when you try to access your account or come into the Library with your Library card and photo I.D. and staff at a service desk can help you

What happens if I forget my Library card?

You may use a photo I.D. at the circulation desk if you forget your card, however, you must have your Library card to use the DX2 – our DVD dispenser at the Main Branch. It is important to always use your Library card as this reduces error. There can be many people with the same name but your Library card is unique!

How many DVDs can I borrow at a time?

You may have a total of 20 DVDs and VHS cassette movies checked out on your library card at any one time.

How long can I borrow items for and am I charged a fine if I return something late?

Important! Report a lost card immediately!

Library materials may be returned to any public library in Massachusetts that is part of the circulating C/W MARS Network. Have more questions? Go to www.worcpublib.org or call the Library
